Energy Storage Symposium – 50 Years ES TCP

ES TCP event

In 2025, we proudly celebrate the 50th anniversary of the IEA Energy Storage Technology Collaboration Programme (TCP) — a milestone that marks half a century of international collaboration in energy storage research, development and deployment.
What began in 1975 as the Implementing Agreement on Energy Conservation through Energy Storage has grown into a global network driving innovation and impact.

To honour this journey and look ahead to the future, a one-day symposium dedicated to “50 Years of Energy Storage RD&D: Achievements and the Way Forward.” will take place in Rotterdam on 13 November.

Today energy storage has become the key technology bringing together fluctuating renewable energy sources and energy demand. There will be no energy transition without energy storage.

The symposium will provide you with an overview of the past, present and future developments in storage technologies and will highlight how the various sectors can benefit from deploying energy storages to create urgently needed flexibility.

You can expect contributions highlighting:

  • the scientific state-of-the-art in energy storage development,
  • how energy storage can bridge the gap between volatile renewable generation and energy demand
  • Its impact on the overall decarbonization of our energy system and society

The Dutch Minister of Climate and Green Growth will open the symposium, followed by presentations of the IEA representative and internationally esteemed technology experts, sector specialists, and policy advisors.

The symposium will offer you a unique opportunity to meet colleagues from around the world to discuss the present and future of energy storage.
